On October 9th, 2011 at the age of 38, I achieved one of my BIGGEST running goals breaking 3 hours in the marathon. I ran a 2:59:49 in the Chicago Marathon. I had been running marathons for 12 years and did not know exactly what was next. But I had torn my calf at 13 miles of that race so I knew I had a faster race in me.

I grew up following my parents around to local 10ks. I cheered them on in their first of many marathons when I was in 6th grade. I was a competitive gymnast and tennis player at the time and had no interest in running. In 1999, I decided to check the marathon box and ran my first marathon in Houston. By the 2011 Chicago Marathon, I had run 14 marathons and 2 Boston marathons. After the 2:59, I was plagued with injuries, 2 that took me out of running for almost 4 years.

This left me as a 43-year-old runner who had not run in 4 years. I still had the fire in me to try to run a faster marathon, but I was not sure it was possible. I decided to hire a personal coach. An injury prone friend of mine started running with Chris. He had her running great, injury free and hitting her goals. In March of 2017, I decided to give it a shot. That is when the magic started.

I was hesitant about running high mileage because of my past injuries. Chris was very patient with me. I love that he adapts my schedule weekly based on my goals and how I am feeling. He also understands that I have a life outside of running that demands my time and energy. I have had many coaches in my 40-year career as a competitive athlete and I have never had one that cares for their athletes like Chris does. This is a special gift that he bestows which gives his athletes a secret weapon above and beyond the excellent training plans he puts together.

In the last 2 1⁄2 years, Chris has trained me to a personal record (PR) in every distance 2 miles, 5K, 8K, 10K, 10 miles, 1⁄2 marathon and 25K for a total of 17 PRs! Only one distance was left, the marathon. On December 8, 2019, Chris’s birthday, WE crushed that 8-year PR at California International Marathon. I ran a 2:56:05 at the age of 46 years old! There are many times that I do not believe that I can do the workouts that Chris gives me or the times he tells me that I can run in races, however, I TRUST him and he is always right! I am so thankful to have someone in my life that believes in me more than I believe in myself.

Hiring Chris is one of the best decisions I have made in my life. If I ever need anything, Chris is a phone call away. He is knowledgeable, compassionate, honest, and a great communicator. I could not ask for more in a coach. He is an excellent coach for all levels and ages. Who PR’s at every distance in their 40’s? I would have never accomplished these personal bests without Chris. The road truly has been magical and I am excited to see what the future has in store for us. Chris is a gift to his athletes and to all that know him.
